What to expect in each destination
Maasai Mara National Reserve
Choose the Mara for open grassland game drives. Specify whether your camp is inside the reserve or a neighbouring conservancy, and confirm which areas your quote includes.
Amboseli National Park
Choose Amboseli for an elephant-focused stay. Plan several game drives; cloud cover can hide Kilimanjaro even when wildlife viewing is rewarding.
Tsavo East and Tsavo West
Treat these as two separate destinations. Choose your park and lodge before planning onward coast transfers; trying to cover both on a short stay adds driving time.
Lake Nakuru National Park
A useful Rift Valley stop for rhino interests. Flamingo numbers change with conditions, so plan for a wider wildlife experience.
Samburu National Reserve
Consider Samburu for a northern route and species such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx and gerenuk. Allow time for the journey from your preceding stop.

Laikipia conservancies
Laikipia is a region containing different conservancies, including Ol Pejeta. Compare a named property and its permitted activities rather than booking the region as if it were one park.
Which route suits your available time?
3–4 days: choose one main destination. Compare a Masai Mara safari with an Amboseli-focused trip rather than spending most of a short holiday in transit.
5–7 days: choose two or three complementary stops. Compare Naivasha, Nakuru and Masai Mara with Amboseli, Nakuru and Masai Mara. Check how much time each transfer leaves for game drives; a five-day, three-park trip has a busier pace.
8–10 days: allow longer stays or consider a northern circuit through Samburu and Ol Pejeta. For beach time, compare a safari and Diani holiday and confirm the safari nights separately from the beach nights.
How should budget affect the choice?
Compare total trip costs, not just park entry fees. Ask for the named lodges, room category, meal plan, private vehicle, entry fees, transfers and optional activities. Group size and travel dates affect the price. Fewer destinations may reduce transfers, but the final cost also depends on the properties you choose. When should you travel?
June–October and January–February are common starting windows for planning a safari. Conditions differ by destination and year. Can I see the Big Five in one destination?
A destination may support the Big Five without delivering all five sightings during your visit. Choose a route for varied habitats and enough viewing time, not a guaranteed checklist.
Should I choose Amboseli or Masai Mara?
Consider Amboseli when elephants are your main priority; consider the Mara for a broader savannah itinerary and big-cat interests. If you want both, allow for the transfer and enough nights at each stop.
Are night drives and walking safaris included everywhere?
No. They depend on the reserve or conservancy, the operator and the booked activity. Your itinerary must confirm permission, availability, age restrictions and any extra charge.
Can I combine safari and Diani Beach?
Yes. Confirm where the safari ends, whether the coast transfer uses road, rail or air, and your final departure point. A beach extension needs its own nights and transfer allowance.
