I’m William Kimundia, founder of PMK Tours & Travel. I was born and raised in Kenya and went to school in different parts of the country. Today, I help travellers discover the place I call home.

My journey into travel began during a difficult chapter in my own life.

My background is in information technology. I have always been curious about how things work and how we can improve them for people. That curiosity took me into renewable energy, where I built a company around a passion for cleaner energy, a passion I still carry today.

But around 2021, the world was changing, and so was my working life. Things at the business were not going well. After putting so much into it, I reached a point where I felt I had hit rock bottom.

I needed an opportunity to begin again. What I didn’t know was how much that opportunity would change me.

A new beginning, and a different world

In 2023, I joined a reputable travel agency in a sales role.

What began as a job became something much more meaningful. I discovered how liberating travel could be: stepping away from familiar surroundings, seeing life from another perspective and connecting with people whose experiences were different from my own.

Speaking with travellers from around the world made me curious.

What makes someone choose Kenya? What have they been dreaming about? What do they hope to feel when they finally arrive?

I began to understand that a safari often carries a story long before the traveller packs a bag. It might be a honeymoon, a family reunion, a birthday or a journey someone has spent years saving for.

I wanted to understand those stories.

The question that led to PMK

As I worked with clients, one frustration kept coming up: they didn’t feel heard.

Sometimes, the conversation moved towards a standard package before anyone had really understood what the traveller wanted. Yet those details mattered. A parent needed a gentler pace. A family wanted more time together. Someone else was trying to make a special trip possible within a carefully planned budget.

What could we create if we listened more closely?

What if we took the time to research another camp, reconsider the route or explain the choices properly? What if the traveller could feel involved in shaping the journey from the very beginning?

Those questions became the idea behind PMK Tours & Travel.

Still travelling. Still learning.

My own experiences continue to shape the way I work. Exploring Ngorongoro and spending time with Hadzabe people in Tanzania have been part of that journey.

Travel keeps reminding me how much there is to discover and how much we can learn by being curious and listening.

My background in technology also stays with me. I enjoy researching, finding practical answers and improving how we do things. At PMK, I want that work to translate into something useful for you: clearer information, thoughtful recommendations and a safari that reflects what matters to you.

Finding my way into travel gave me a new direction when I needed one. Building PMK has given me the chance to turn that experience into a way of welcoming others.
