How to plan a Tanzania safari from Nairobi
Begin with your travel dates, available nights and the wildlife experiences that matter most. A Tanzania focused holiday can connect Nairobi with the northern safari circuit through Arusha. A combined Kenya and Tanzania itinerary can include the Masai Mara and Serengeti, but needs enough time for both countries and the transfer between them.
PMK helps you compare these routes before you commit. The useful question is how each day will feel: how much time is spent travelling, when you reach your camp and how many mornings remain for game drives. More park names do not automatically create a more rewarding holiday.
Road routes, border crossings and guide handovers
Namanga is a recognised crossing for a Nairobi to Arusha route. Isebania and Sirari are relevant when connecting western Kenya with Tanzania. The suitable route depends on the parks, accommodation and conditions. Immigration processing and any change of vehicle or guide add time that belongs in the itinerary.
Do not plan on driving directly between the Mara and Serengeti through an open park boundary. KRA lists Sand River Gate as closed. PMK confirms the intended crossing and handover arrangements for your proposed departure. Each traveller should check current entry requirements with the relevant official authorities for their passport before booking.
Serengeti safari packages from Nairobi
Choose the Serengeti region around your dates and interests. A general wildlife holiday, a calving focused itinerary and a northern migration safari can require different camp locations. Several nights in a suitable region give you room to explore, enjoy changing light and avoid making the entire holiday depend on a single sighting.
We compare the camp location, proposed drives and transfer demands together. Migration patterns help planning, but weather and herd movement can change. River crossings, predator sightings and the presence of a particular herd cannot be guaranteed. Ask for a proposal that explains why the suggested camp suits your trip.
Tarangire and Lake Manyara in your Tanzania itinerary
Tarangire brings river habitats, baobab landscapes and elephant interests to a northern circuit holiday. Lake Manyara adds forest, woodland, lake scenery and birding. Either can complement the open plains of the Serengeti when your available nights support the journey.
Choose the combination for variety you will enjoy, rather than adding every park. Lake conditions and bird concentrations can change. Tree climbing lions at Manyara are a possibility, not a promised encounter. PMK helps decide whether an additional park adds meaningful experiences or takes time away from your main priority.
Combined Kenya and Tanzania safari packages
Our existing 11 day Kenya and Tanzania safari is a useful starting point for travellers comparing Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Serengeti and Ngorongoro interests. Review that itinerary alongside your dates and preferred accommodation, then discuss adjustments with PMK. Tarangire and Manyara are separate route options and should not be assumed to be included.
For a honeymoon, allow time to settle into each camp. For a family, balance transfers with rest and confirm room arrangements. For photography, discuss vehicle space and camp location. The best combination is one you can comfortably enjoy, with clearly stated inclusions and optional activities.
Compare road travel with flight connections
A road safari gives you a connected journey and can suit travellers who enjoy landscapes between destinations. It also needs substantial time for some transfers. A flight assisted itinerary may reduce selected road sections, but schedules, luggage limits, immigration steps and airstrip transfers still need attention.
PMK compares available connections for your dates rather than promising a direct flight that may not operate. Your quotation should distinguish flights from ground services and explain what happens if a connection is unavailable. Decide using the complete journey, not the flight time alone.
What your Tanzania safari quotation should explain
A useful quotation identifies accommodation names, room basis, meals, vehicle arrangements, park entries, transfer services and any international flights. Optional balloon experiences, personal expenses and entry documents should be clearly distinguished from included services. Prices depend on the dates, camp choice, party size and route.
PMK gives you a proposal to discuss before making a booking commitment. Tell us your priorities and approximate budget so we can explain the choices that affect your experience. The aim is clear value: accommodation in a suitable place, enough time for your main interests and fewer practical questions left unresolved.
What PMK brings to your safari
Your priorities shape the route
We start with the experiences you want, then compare accommodation and nights that support them. You can discuss the tradeoffs before choosing.
Clarity before commitment
Your proposal identifies the planned services, inclusions and optional costs. Wildlife expectations and practical arrangements are explained honestly.
Less planning for you to carry
Kariuki and the PMK team bring the route, accommodation and transfer questions into one conversation, so you can focus on the holiday you want.
Safari prices and what to compare
Request a quote for your dates, party size and preferred accommodation. Compare park entries, transport, meals, room basis and optional activities alongside the total. Seasonal availability and fees can change, so your written proposal is the place to confirm current prices.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start a Tanzania safari in Nairobi?
Yes. PMK can plan a Tanzania focused route or a combined Kenya and Tanzania itinerary, with the border, transfer and accommodation arrangements stated in the proposal.
Should I combine the Mara and Serengeti?
Consider the combination when you have enough nights for both parks and the international transfer. With limited time, a focused itinerary can leave more time for wildlife and relaxation.
Are Tanzania flights included?
Only when explicitly included in your written quotation. Available schedules, baggage allowances and ground transfers must be confirmed for your dates.
Which Tanzania parks can I combine?
Serengeti, Tarangire and Lake Manyara are northern circuit options. Ngorongoro can also be discussed. The right combination depends on your dates, nights, interests and budget.
