Diani is an Indian Ocean beach destination on Kenya’s south coast. It offers a change from early safari starts: choose a few days for beach time, a comfortable resort and the option of water-based activities. It can suit families, couples and travellers who want to rest before the journey home.
The best extension starts with your interests. Some guests want an active coast stay; others want to leave their days open. Tell Kariuki and the PMK team how much activity you prefer and which meal plan suits you. We can discuss Diani as an extension to a safari or a separately arranged beach stay.
Beach time, water activities and excursions
Snorkelling, diving and other water activities depend on the chosen provider, conditions and your experience. Ask what equipment, transport and guiding are included, and whether the activity is suitable for children or beginners. Weather and sea conditions can change plans; a flexible beach schedule makes that easier to manage.
Diani is not interchangeable with every coast attraction. A marine excursion farther south requires its own transport and day allocation. Do not assume all excursions are included in a resort’s all-inclusive plan. Your proposal will distinguish beach accommodation from optional outings, so you can choose what genuinely interests you.
Flying, rail connections and road transfers
A flight into Ukunda can be convenient for Diani, with the onward resort transfer arranged separately. Another option may use Mombasa airport or a rail connection, followed by the road transfer to the south coast. Compare the full journey, not only the train or flight fare. Current schedules and availability are confirmed before booking.
After an Amboseli or Tsavo safari, a coast connection may avoid returning to Nairobi, depending on the route. The final park drive, station or airport arrival, luggage and onward pickup all need coordinating. Share your international departure airport early so your last holiday day has sufficient connection time.
Choosing your resort and meal plan
Compare beachfront access, room category, air conditioning, pools, family facilities and the atmosphere you want. A resort may have several room types; an ocean view should be confirmed rather than inferred from promotional photographs. Ask about stairs and distances between rooms and shared areas if accessibility matters.
Bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive plans cover different things. Confirm drinks, restaurants, activity exclusions and any additional charges in the actual offer. For a honeymoon or special occasion, we can request suitable arrangements, subject to the property’s confirmation. Choose the stay that fits your daily rhythm as well as your budget.
How many nights and when to travel
Three to five nights can provide a useful recovery period after a safari, while a longer stay creates more room for excursions and unplanned afternoons. A short two-night extension leaves less beach time once transfers are counted. We can show the practical difference before you choose.
The coast is warm, and seasonal rain, wind and sea conditions influence activities. The generally wetter long-rain period often falls around April–May, with shorter rains later in the year; exact conditions vary. Fixed holiday dates and school breaks can affect room availability. Pack light clothing, sun protection and suitable footwear, and follow the resort and activity operator’s advice near the water.
Costs, inclusions and booking details
Your quote depends on dates, party size, room occupancy, accommodation level, transport and activities. Compare the same arrangement when looking at different offers. A private vehicle’s cost is shared across your party, while accommodation and admission are usually linked to the individual traveller or room.
Ask for transport and pickup points, the named property and room category, meal plan, guide arrangements and included activities to be listed clearly. Entry, specialist experiences, equipment hire, domestic connections and transfers should be addressed explicitly. Optional additions are priced separately unless the written proposal includes them.
Admission and activity charges can change. Share children’s ages and any eligibility details needed for the correct visitor category. We reconfirm the applicable rates and reservation requirements for your dates. Review the payment schedule, cancellation terms and arrangements for any property substitution before confirming.
Itinerary options for Diani Beach
These existing PMK itineraries are starting points for discussing your trip. Review their full day-by-day routes and ask us to confirm your preferred activities and overnight stops.
Yes, we can quote a private guide and vehicle for your party where appropriate. Flights, boats, property activities or excursions may have shared arrangements unless a private service is confirmed. The proposal will state which arrangement applies.
Can we change the route or add another destination?
We can discuss a route around your dates, interests and comfort level. Added destinations need sufficient nights and transfer time. Availability and any price changes are confirmed before you book.
Is this suitable for children or guests with mobility needs?
Share children’s ages, walking preferences and accessibility needs early. We will check room arrangements, property rules, activity restrictions and practical access before proposing the final plan.
What should I send for a quote?
Send your dates or travel month, number of adults and children, pickup and finish points, accommodation preferences and approximate budget. Mention the Diani Beach experiences you most want to include so Kariuki and the PMK team can prepare a useful comparison.
