AA Lodge sits inside Amboseli National Park, which is the thing that matters most here. Amboseli's whole reputation rests on elephant herds photographed against Kilimanjaro, and the mountain is only reliably clear for about an hour after dawn and an hour before dusk. Sleeping inside the park is what puts you in position for both.
It is a straightforward mid-range lodge rather than a boutique camp, and it is unusually flexible on room configuration — six categories including family and honeymoon, so mixed parties travelling together can actually be accommodated.
Amboseli is a park families choose, because the elephant viewing is spectacular and undemanding and the drives are short. Most lodges force a family of five into two doubles. Here there are dedicated family rooms alongside singles, twins, triples and a honeymoon category, which usually makes the total cost lower rather than higher.

June to October and January to February are driest, with the clearest mountain views — and clear views are the entire point of Amboseli.
In the wet months Kilimanjaro often stays hidden behind cloud for days. Rates are lower, but be honest with yourself about whether you are coming for the mountain photograph.
