Mara Ngenche sits tucked into ravine forest right where the Mara and Talek rivers meet. That confluence is the whole reason to stay here: hippo and crocodile hold the pools below camp permanently, so there is wildlife within earshot of your tent at every hour rather than only during game drives.

It is a twelve-tent camp, and each tent sits inside its own boma — a private walled enclosure. The practical effect is that you neither see nor hear your neighbours. For a honeymoon, or for anyone whose last hotel experience involved a thin wall, that matters more than any amount of thread count.

What makes this one different

Every tent has its own private plunge pool

Not a shared pool with loungers — a plunge pool per tent, inside your own boma. Combined with river views from the deck, an indoor bath and an outdoor shower, it means the middle of the day (when game viewing is slow and the heat peaks) is time you will actually want to spend at camp rather than enduring.

The rooms

Twelve tents, all the same category, decorated in a mix of contemporary African and older colonial styling.

  • Private boma enclosure around each tent
  • Private plunge pool
  • Expansive river views from the tent and deck
  • Indoor bath plus a separate outdoor shower
  • Hippo and crocodile pools directly below camp

When to come

The camp is inside the reserve on the Talek side, so game viewing is strong year-round rather than migration-dependent. River crossings on the Mara are broadly July to October.

After the rains the park turns green and the light gets dramatic — better for photography than the dusty peak months, and cheaper. Migratory birds are still around, including large flocks of white stork.

Getting there

  • By air — fly to Ol Kiombo airstrip, then a 25-minute game drive to camp. Ol Kiombo is served twice daily from Nairobi by both SafariLink and AirKenya, plus ALS and charters.
  • By road — roughly six hours from Nairobi.
Because the transfer from Ol Kiombo is itself a game drive, flying in does not cost you wildlife time here the way it can at camps with a long road connection.
