Sweetwaters sits inside Ol Pejeta itself, with Mount Kenya's snow on the skyline. Ol Pejeta is the most consequential conservancy in the country — East Africa's largest black rhino sanctuary, the only place in Kenya holding both the Big Five and chimpanzees, and home to Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos alive anywhere.
It is a classic tented camp rather than a lodge: canvas, but with en-suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi and a private veranda on every tent. The combination of serious conservation and genuine comfort is what makes this our default recommendation for Ol Pejeta.
Ol Pejeta sits at altitude on the flanks of Mount Kenya and it gets genuinely cold — people are consistently surprised. An unheated pool at 1,800 metres is decorative. This one is heated, and after a dawn game drive in an open vehicle in the cold, that is not a luxury detail.

Ol Pejeta is good year-round. It is fenced and well managed, so game viewing does not swing with the seasons the way it does in the open parks.
Bring warm layers whatever the month. Nights on the Laikipia plateau are cold, and dawn game drives are colder still.
