Masai Mara Conservancies: Compare Stays & Reserve Access

Compare a Greater Masai Mara conservancy stay with a national-reserve safari. Choose by your camp’s actual location, access arrangements and activities, rather than by the word “Mara” alone.

Start with the right distinction

The Greater Mara includes the Maasai Mara National Reserve and surrounding conservancies. The conservancies association identifies Mara North, Naboisho, Olare Motorogi, Ol Kinyei and other conservancies within the wider ecosystem. A conservancy booking and a reserve entry are different arrangements.

Mara North’s model brings together Maasai landowners and tourism partners. Other conservancies have their own management and visitor arrangements. We check the specific camp and access rules before describing an activity as included.

Conservancies to compare

ConservancyWhat to establish before choosing a camp
Mara NorthCamp location, conservancy access and whether reserve visits are included or additional.
NaboishoNamed property, available activities and guiding arrangements.
Olare MotorogiWhich area your booking covers and how onward reserve outings work.
Ol KinyeiAccommodation availability, visitor access and any access to neighbouring areas.

This is a planning shortlist, not a ranking or a promise that all camps offer the same services. Use the association’s conservancies map to understand the wider landscape.

Reserve stay or conservancy stay?

Choose around your wildlife priorities

Tell us which sightings or areas matter most. If river viewing is a priority, we will assess the camp location and actual journey to the relevant reserve area. Migration movements and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

Choose around your preferred experience

If you want walking, night drives or another specialist activity, ask for that exact service to be checked. Do not assume every conservancy, camp or rate permits it.

Questions that prevent booking surprises

  • Is the camp inside a conservancy, inside the reserve or outside both?
  • Which conservancy does the booking include?
  • Are game drives private or shared with other camp guests?
  • Are reserve outings, vehicle charges and entry fees additional?
  • What restrictions apply to children, walking or night activities?
  • How much transfer time is needed for the places we want to visit?

Combine a conservancy with the reserve

A combination may suit a longer stay, but extra access and transfers must be planned. We will compare nights in one camp with a split stay, explaining the change of vehicle or guide where relevant. Share your priorities and budget before we recommend the structure.

Compare with an existing PMK package

Our 3-day Masai Mara safari is an existing route with its own named accommodation and activities. It should not be treated as a conservancy-access package unless your written quote explicitly includes that access. For a broader choice, read our Masai Mara destination guide.

For a northern Kenya and Mara combination, compare the Kenya conservancies guide, Lewa and Loisaba. We will price the actual route and stays for your dates.

Before you book: your written PMK proposal confirms the accommodation, access, activities, fees and transfers. Sightings and specialist activities depend on conditions and availability. No conservancy stay or conservation benefit is guaranteed by a destination name alone.
